LAZAR NAMED NJCAA NATIONAL PITCHER OF THE WEEK; SAINTS JUMP TO #4
Gainesville, FL – Santa Fe College's Colena Lazar is this week's NJCAA National Softball Pitcher of the Week. Lazar, a freshman from Dade City, Fla., was 2-0 with a no hitter, 0.00 ERA and 22 strikeouts in only 14 innings pitched. For the season, she is 14-0 with a 0.79 ERA and 133 strikeouts in 98 innings.
Lazar had a brilliant week in the circle for the Saints. On March 8, in a 3-0 win over State College of Florida, the 5'11” freshman went all seven innings with no hits, six walks and 13 strikeouts giving Lazar her second no hitter of the year. The next day she was called upon again to perform, and perform she did, by going seven innings with one hit, four walks, and nine strikeouts, earning the win over Brevard CC with a score of 6-0. Through 14 innings, she gave up just one hit with 10 walks and 22 strikeouts.
The success of the past week also vaulted SF to #4 in the NJCAA national poll, the highest this season. The Saints are currently 24-4 overall and 2-0 in the Mid-Florida Conference.
