#2 SAINTS SWEEP THROUGH OPENING MFC DOUBLEHEADER, 6-0 AND 13-2
Palatka, FL – Colena Lazar (14-0) started things off right for the FCCAA #2 Saints (24-4, 2-0 MFC) on Tuesday night in Palatka, shutting out St. John's River CC for her fourteenth win of the year and seventh shutout. She struck out nine and now has 133 K's in 98 innings pitched. Her twin sister Colesa (pictured) powered Santa Fe to a 13-2 win in game two with a grand slam to put the game out of reach. She was 6-for-7 on the night with six RBI.
Jasmine Warren pitched SF to the victory in game two, surrendering two runs in five innings while striking out seven in the mercy rule victory.
The Saints piled up 13 hits in game one to cruise to a 6-0 victory. Colesa Lazar finished 4-for-4 with a run, a double and an RBI, Gia Tomossone (pictured below) was 2-for-4 with a homerun and three RBI, Taylor Pangilinan was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Alexis Sowell was 2-for-3 in the lead-off spot.
In game two, the SF bats stayed hot as the Saints put 13 runs up on the board on 13 hits. Pangilinan was 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI and is second in the state with a .544 batting average (43-for-79).
Colesa Lazar finished 2-for-3 with a grandslam and five RBI, Ashley Curry was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Alexis Sowell was 2-for-3 with two RBI, Lawna Hunter was 2-for-3 with two runs and Tomossone was 1-for-2 with her second homerun of the night and three RBI. She now has seven homeruns on the season.
The Saints will have a day off before returning home on Thursday to face Lake Sumter CC in a Mid-Florida Conference matchup. The double header is scheduled to get underway at 2:30pm.
