SAINTS OUTLAST SEMINOLE STATE, WIN FIRST MFC GAME 3-2
Gainesville, FL – The Saints (10-10, 1-3 MFC) picked up an important win on Monday afternoon against Seminole State College, earning their first Mid-Florida Conference win of the year after starting 0-3.
The Saints managed only six hits on offense, but held the Raiders to three, despite walking eight.
Daryl Barnes (1-3) earned the win on the mound for the Saints, pitching 3.2 scoreless innings in relief of starter Ricky Claudio (0.2 inning, four walks, one run) and Steven Ragans (2.2 innings, two hits, one run). Ory Pitts threw the final two scoreless innings, allowing only one base runner on a walk to pick up his first save of the season.
Seminole took the early 1-0 lead in the first inning on a bases loaded walk. Santa Fe bounced back to tie the score 1-1 on a Raider error in the second inning.
SSC retook the lead in the fourth inning on two hits and two SF errors.
Trailing for the second time in the game going into the fifth, the Saints pushed two runs across on an RBI single by Brett Bozeman and a sacrifice fly by Mike Miranda, giving him 34 RBI on the season.
The one run lead was all the Santa Fe relievers would need, as they shut down the Seminole hitters over the last four innings.
TJ Spina and Jeff Moyer were each 2-for-4 and Joe Clouse and Bozeman had one hit apiece.
The Saints will be back in action on Wednesday at home against MFC rival Daytona State College at 3:00pm.
