LAZAR THROWS NO HITTER, #2 SAINTS SPLIT WITH SCF, 3-0 AND 1-3
Gainesville, FL – Colena Lazar (12-0) was unhittable in game one of a double header with State College of Florida, throwing her second no hitter of the season in dominating fashion. She struck out 13 Manatee batters and walked six. Lazar now has 115 strikeouts in 84 innings this season.
Santa Fe (20-4) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, putting two runs on the board in the first inning on a two RBI single by Britany Doty and another run in the third, again on a single by Doty, putting the Saints up 3-0.
Doty finished game one 3-for-3 with three RBI, Taylor Pangilinan was 3-for-3 and Ashley Curry 3-for-3. Santa Fe had 11 total hits in game one.
SCF bounced back in game two, getting to Saints starting pitcher Jasmine Warren for two runs before she was removed for Colena Lazar. Lazar gave up one run in two innings of work and the Saints offense wasn't able to mount a comeback, falling 3-1. The lone SF run came in the sixth inning on a double by Gia Tomossone.
The Saints had only five hits in game two. Alexis Sowell, Jaimee Vega, Pangilinan, Tomossone and Warren each recorded a hit apiece.
Santa Fe will travel to Clermont tomorrow (March 9) for two games at the National Training Center Tournament. Game one is against Rochester College (IL) at 1:30pm and game two is against Brevard CC at 3:30pm.
