SAINTS WIN FINAL REGULAR SEASON GAME, 70-57
Gainesville, FL – All-state guard Lanita Bartley scored a game high 17 points in the final home game of her Santa Fe College career to lead the Mid-Florida Conference Champion Saints to a victory over Florida State College-Jacksonville on Wednesday night. Tracie Sneed, also playing in her final home game, scored 13 to help pace the Saints.
SF (18-9, 7-2 MFC) trailed early on, 9-4, but used a 34-8 run to jump put to a 38-17 lead with 3:24 to go in the first half. Jazmyne Green made a three point shot with 15 seconds in the first period to give Santa Fe a 45-24 halftime lead.
Florida State College fought back in the second half and got as close as ten with eight minutes to go before SF righted the ship and pushed the margin back to 15 with six minutes remaining and never looked back, holding a double digit lead the rest of the way.
Bartley led all scorers with 17 and also pitched in three rebounds and two assists. Sneed scored 13 points and Demisha Mills, sophomore India Johnson and sophomore Letiecia Davenport each had eight.
“This was a nice way to end the regular season, but we need to start getting ready for the state tournament,” said Coach Chanda Stebbins. “We have a lot of things we need to work on and I think this game helped us recognize some of those areas. We're going to practice hard and we'll be ready to go come March 4.”
The Saints will represent the Mid-Florida Conference in the FCCAA State/NCJAA Region VIII Tournament in Marianna at Chipola College on March 4-6. The team's first game is on March 4 against the Panhandle Conference third place team at a time to be determined. The website for the tournament can be found here: State Tournament
