SAINTS SWEEP DOUBLE HEADER FROM SOUTH FLORIDA CC, 13-10, 12-10

Avon Park, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (6-4) used their bats on Saturday to take two games from South Florida CC in Avon Park.  The Saints combined to score 23 runs in the two seven inning games, hitting three homeruns in the first game and using extra innings in game two to pull out the win.  The game two win marked Coach Johnny Wiggs 100th win as the head coach at Santa Fe College.  His overall record at SF is 100-63.

Ken Wise (1-1) started on the mound in game one and picked up the win, going five innings with six hits, five runs and three earned runs.  Ory Pitts pitched one third of an inning, surrendering three hits, four runs and four earned runs.  Daryl Barnes earned the save with 1.2 innings, three hits, and only one earned run.

The Saints fell behind early, but scored six runs in the fifth, three in the sixth and three in the seventh to complete the comeback.

TJ Spina finished the game 3-for-5 with an RBI, Austin Lawrence was 1-for-3 with a three run HR, Jeff Moyer was 2-for-3 with a three run HR and four RBI and Jardian Thomas hit his first homerun of the year, going 1-for-4.

SF took the  momentum of their game one win into game two and built a 9-3 lead through five innings.  South Florida stayed in the game, scoring three in the sixth and three in the seventh to send the game to extra innings.

After a scoreless eighth, Joe Clouse started the ninth with a walk and was sacrificed to second by Tommy Goodman.  With two outs, Lawrence and Moyer walked setting up Mike Miranda with the bases loaded.  Miranda came through, delivering a two RBI single to right.  Moyer scored the third run on the play when the SFCC right fielder held the ball too long, allowing him to score all the way from first.

Morgan McKinney started on the mound, pitching five innings.  He surrendered three runs on four hits and struck out five.

Steven Ragans and Kevin Welborn gave up three runs each before Tommy Goodman came in to shut the door with 2.1 innings, giving up one run and no earned runs on two hits.

Austin Lawrence finished game two 3-for-4 with two runs, Miranda was 2-for-6 with two RBI, Spina 2-for-4 with three runs, Moyer 1-for-1 with three walks and three runs scored and Nolan Malone 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI.  Miranda's two RBI give him a team leading 17 on the season.

The Saints return home on Monday, February 15 for a game against Polk State College at 3:00pm.
