ST. PETE COLLEGE DEFEATS SAINTS, 11-5
Clearwater, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (4-4) took an early 3-0 lead, but couldn’t hang on as St. Pete College scored two runs or more in five innings, rallying to defeat the Saints in Clearwater on Wednesday night.
SF took their early 3-0 lead in the first inning on three hits and RBI by Mike Miranda, Nolan Malone (pictured) and Jardian Thomas.
St. Pete answered with two in the third, two in the fifth and two in the sixth. SF scored one of their own in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Tommy Goodman to cut the lead to 6-4, but SPC scored two more in the seventh to push the margin to 8-4.
Goodman added his second RBI in the eighth inning, but St. Pete was too much down the stretch, padding their lead with a three run bottom of the eighth to secure the win.
Gary Merians started on the mound for SF and pitched five innings, allowing four runs, only one of them earned with two strikeouts.
Daryl Barnes (0-2) took the loss, pitching one third of an inning, surrendering two runs on one hit. Corey Turner followed Barnes and allowed five runs, four of them earned in 2.2 innings of work.
The Santa Fe offense pounded out ten hits, but struggled to produce with runners in scoring position. Nolan Malone finished 2-for-5 with an RBI, Tommy Goodman was 2-for-3 with two RBI, Mike Miranda was 1-for-3 with an RBI and TJ Spina, Austin Lawrence, Jardian Thomas, Zach Floyd and Cory Elasik had one hit each.
The Saints will look to rebound on Friday when Miami Dade College comes to Gainesville for a game at 3:00pm. Admission is free.
