SANTA FE LOSES FIRST MFC GAME TO DAYTONA STATE, 69-53

Daytona, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (17-8, 6-1 MFC) have already clinched their second straight Mid-Florida Conference title, but couldn’t make it seven wins in a row in conference play.  The Daytona State Falcons got the best of SF on Wednesday night, defeating the Saints 69-53 in the two teams third match-up of the year.  Santa Fe won the previous two meetings.

“Daytona played very well tonight,” said Coach Chanda Stebbins.  “They played harder and wanted it more than we did.”

Demisha Mills led SF in scoring with 16 points, leading scorer Lanita Bartley had 13 and Leandra King scored seven points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

“I thought Demisha did a good job tonight,” said Stebbins. “That’s the type of effort we know we can get out of her game in and game out.”

The next game for SF is at home on Saturday against Central Florida CC, a team the Saints have defeated twice this season.  Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00pm.  Former player and Santa Fe’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder for women’s basketball, Laura Johnson (1980-82), will be on hand as Coach Stebbins and the rest of the athletics department honor her for her contributions to SF basketball.
