#2 SAINTS FALL TO POLK STATE COLLEGE, 4-1

Winter Haven, FL – Gary Merians threw five solid innings for Santa Fe (2-2) on Wednesday night, but the bats never got going as the Saints lost to Polk State College, 4-1 in Winter Haven.

Merians (1-1), who took his first loss since last February after winning nine straight dating back to March 2009, threw five innings and gave up four hits, two runs, one walk and struck out three.

Tommy Goodman pitched 1.2 innings and surrendered two runs on two hits.  Ory Pitts finished the game on the mound for Santa Fe pitching a scoreless 1.1 innings.

Jeff Moyer had the Saints only run of the game with a sixth inning homerun, his first of the season.

SF produced only four hits in the game, with Moyer accounting for two of them (2-for-4, 2B, HR, RBI) and Mike Miranda the other two (2-for-4).  On the season, Moyer is hitting .455 and Miranda .429.  The two have accounted for nine of the teams 11 RBI.

The Saints next game will be against Indian River State College at home on Friday at 3:00pm.
