SAINTS HANDLE CENTRAL FLORIDA FOR BIG MFC WIN, 70-59

Ocala, FL – Sophomore guards Lanita Bartley and Tracie Sneed combined to score 41 points in leading Santa Fe (16-7, 5-0 MFC) to their fifth consecutive Mid-Florida Conference win on Wednesday night against Central Florida CC (16-8, 2-2 MFC) in Ocala.

Bartley, the Saints leading scorer on the season, had 25 points and eight rebounds.  She made 10-of-18 free throws on the night.  Sneed (pictured), a Georgia State signee had 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including 4-of-4 from the free throw line.

“This was a huge win for our team,” said Coach Chanda Stebbins.  “I’m really proud of how well we played on the road.  We did a nice job of maintaining our intensity and played defense for all 40 minutes.”

Santa Fe led from the get go and never trailied in the game, staking themselves to a 13-5 lead in the early going.  Bartley capped the first half with a driving layup to put SF up 35-26 at the half.

In the second half CFCC was able to cut the lead to four on two occasions, but each time Bartley and Sneed had an answer.  The two All-Conference guards scored 12 of the Saints last 16 points to secure their second victory over the Patriots in Ocala this season.

Letiecia Davenport led SF in rebounding on the night with 12 and Leandra King finished with eight points, eight rebounds and six blocked shots.  Tyesha Battles led CFCC in scoring with 24.

“Our posts, Letiecia, Brandice [Howard] and Leandra really came to play again tonight,” said Stebbins.  “They challenged a lot of shots down low and made scoring in the paint difficult for Central Florida.”

The Saints will travel to Jacksonville on Saturday to take on Florida State College-Jacksonville at 2:00pm in a MFC match-up.
