SAINTS OPEN MID-FLORIDA CONFERENCE PLAY ON SATURDAY AT 2PM
Gainesville, FL – With the large majority of the non-conference portion of the season behind them, the Santa Fe Saints men’s basketball team will open their eight game conference season on Saturday at 2:00pm against St. John’s River CC at home.
Coach Chris Mowry and the defending MFC tournament champion Saints enter the game with an 11-7 overall record and are led in scoring by sophomore University of Central Florida transfer Chris Baez, who is averaging 15.5 points per game. Freshman Chuck Ford is second on the team in scoring with 11.4 ppg. Freshman Iran Hollis is the team’s leading rebounder at 7.7 boards per game and sophomore PG Marlon Rivera averages a team best 5.4 assists per contest.
Santa Fe and SJRCC split the season series last year, with the Vikings taking the first matchup 81-77 and the Saints bouncing back late in the season to take the second game 79-66.
St. John’s River comes into Saturday’s game with a 16-4 record. It will be their first MFC game of the season.
