RENFRO LEADS SAINTS PAST IMG ACADEMY, 75-66

Gainesville, FL – Chad Renfro poured in 19 points, including 8-of-8 from the free throw line to lead the Santa Fe Saints to their second victory over IMG Academy this season.  The two teams met the first game of the year with SF coming out on top 68-39.

“I thought this was a solid effort by our team tonight,” said Coach Chris Mowry.  “We were a little bit short handed, especially at point guard with Marlon Rivera and Chuck Ford out, but Chris Clay did a great job again stepping up.  Chad played hard for us again and I think some of our guys feed off of his energy.”

The Saints led by as many as nine in the first half and took a 36-31 lead into the halftime break.  SF hit 12-of-14 free throws in the first period, compared to only 6-of-9 for IMG.

IMG fought back to take the lead in the second half, 42-21 with 15 minutes to go, but Iran Hollis and Altavious Carter combined to scored ten straight points for Santa Fe to build the lead back to eight at 55-47.

“Our guys kept their composure after IMG went up early in the second half, and were able to build the lead back up to double digits,” said Mowry.  “We did a good job on the free throw line and in a close game that is obviously very important.”

The Saints didn’t look back from there and made nine free throws in the final one minute and twenty seconds to seal the win.  For the game, SF was 23-of-27 from the free throw line.

Renfro led SF in scoring with 19 points and four other players scored in double figures.  Iran Hollis scored 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds, Chris Clay had 12 points and six assists, Chris Baez scored 11 and Altavious Carter had 10.

“Iran did a nice job inside for us,” said Mowry.  “He has been getting better and better and has really improved over the last four or five games.”

The Saints next game is at home on Saturday against Rise Academy (PA) at 7:00pm.
