Study Abroad Faculty Grants

These grants are intended to cover some of the costs associated with preparing a study abroad trip, specifically travel to the location where a faculty member intends to take students. Awards will range from $1,000-$1,500 and are to be used for travel during the spring or summer of 2010. Any faculty member awarded a grant must submit a study abroad proposal in August 2010. Applications are due January 15, 2010.

CIEE International Faculty Development Seminars

There are over 20 seminars to choose from. Faculty may apply for CIEE's Ping Fellowship, which awards $1,000-$1,500 towards a seminar's cost. The SF International Education Office will match any Ping Fellowship awarded to a faculty member. The Ping application deadline is Jan. 15. For more information go online.

Do you want to lead a study abroad program?

Share your experience and knowledge with students in an international setting. Study abroad will not only change the students' lives, but enhance your own teaching and mentoring. The lessons you will bring back to your classroom are limitless.

Excerpt from facultyled.com:

There are many reasons why faculty should consider travel-study abroad in their careers.

  • First, it is personally enriching. Like students, your eyes and ears are opened to things new when you travel and teach abroad.
  • Second, your teaching at home is substantially enhanced by your international experiences. Because your knowledge is broadened and deepened, you are better adept at getting around the narrow American view.
  • Third, your international experiences in teaching-learning make you a valuable commodity to the finest colleges and universities. The buzz word on college campuses is "Internationalization" and the key is well-traveled, knowledgeable professors that can grab students by the seat of their pajamas and turn them upside down and into global citizens of an ever-changing world.
