SAINTS FALL TO HILLSBOROUGH, 81-75
Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (7-3) took 22 more shots than the Hillsborough Hawks (6-2) in their game on Saturday night, but shot only 32.5% (25-for-77) from the field in the losing effort. The Hawks also had 25 made baskets but took only 55 shots (45.5%).
"I thought our players worked hard but we just didn't execute like we needed to," said Coach Chanda Stebbins. "We had too many easy chances on put backs that we failed to capitalize on. We are going to need to coach them up better and try and improve as a team."
Santa Fe outrebound HCC by a significant margin, 53-37, which included 34 offensive rebounds, but failed to capitalize on close put back attempts throughout the game.
The Saints led by as many as 12 points in the opening period, but Hillsborough used a 24-6 run to end the first half and take a six point lead into halftime, 42-36.
SF controlled the opening 12 minutes of the second half and built a nine point lead at the 8:37 mark, 68-59, on an India Johnson three pointer.
Hillsborough answered the Saints and went on a 22-7 run to end the game and take the victory.
Tracie Sneed led the Saints in scoring for the second night in a row, scoring 21, including four three point shots. Lanita Bartley had 15 points and Demisha Mills led the Saints in rebound with 11, including 10 offensive rebounds.
"Demisha gave us great effort tonight and really worked hard on the offensive boards," said Stebbins. . The Saints will travel to Miami this weekend to play two games at Miami Dade College. The first is on Dec. 11 against Broward CC at 6pm and on Dec. 12 Santa Fe plays Miami Dade College at 2pm.
