TCC EAGLES UPEND SAINTS, 80-73

Gainesville, FL – In a game that was separated by no more than 10 points the entire game, the FCCAA #5 Tallahassee CC Eagles (9-2) pulled out the close win, 80-73 to even the season series with the FCCAA #4 Santa Fe Saints (7-2) at 1-1. SFC had previously beaten TCC in Tallahassee on November 3.

"TCC outrebounded us, outworked us and wanted it more," said Santa Fe Coach Chanda Stebbins. "They deserved to win this ballgame."

The Eagles took the early lead in the first half and built a 32-22 advantage with 5:41 to go but the Saints fought back to grab the lead, 34-33, on a Tracie Sneed lay-up with 1:30 in the half.

TCC regained the lead at the halftime buzzer on a lay-up to take a 37-36 advantage at the break. Sneed finished the first half with 18 points for Santa Fe.

"Tracie shot the ball very well for us today," said Stebbins. "I was also very pleased with the effort we had from Demisha [Mills]."

The Saints came out of the locker room strong, taking their third lead of the game, 43-41 on two Sneed free throws with 16:27 to go. The Eagles retook the lead shortly after and didn't relinquish it, holding on the rest of the way for the win. The Saints cut the lead to one numerous times, but never retook the lead.

Tallahassee outrebounded SFC 39-27 and the Eagles collected 19 offensive rebounds to the Saints 16 defensive boards.

"We are going to have to rebound better if we want to win ballgames against quality opponents like Tallahassee," said Stebbins.

Sneed led all scorers with 30 points. Demisha Mills and Brandice Howard each finished with 11 and Letiecia Davenport had 10.

Santa Fe continues the JUCO shootout tomorrow when they face Hillsborough CC (5-2) at 6pm. The HCC Hawks were defeated earlier in the day by Daytona State, 86-72.
