SFC MEN'S BASKETBALL

#6 SAINTS FALL TO FCCAA #4 TALLAHASSEE CC, 77-59

Marianna, FL – Tallahassee Community College (8-2) guard Marvell Waithe led the way with 25 points for the Eagles as they defeated the Santa Fe College Saints (7-3) at the Panhandle Shootout on Friday afternoon.

Waithe and the Eagles dominated the first half, outscoring the Saints 44-20. Santa Fe shot only 21% from the field in the first period.

"Tallahassee played very well in the first half," said Coach Chris Mowry. "They were 7-for-11 from the three point line and we really didn't shoot the ball with any consistency."

The Saints made a run in the second half and cut the lead to 59-47 with 7:41 remaining, but the Marvell Waithe hit two straight three pointers and the Eagles pulled away down the stretch to win their eighth game of the season. Santa Fe outscored TCC 39-33 in the second half.

"We executed better in the second half and played a lot harder," said Mowry. "Our guys didn't give up and cut it to 12 at one point before Waithe hit a couple three's. I thought we battled and never gave up."

Altavious Carter led SFC with 13 points (5-of-13) and five rebounds. Chuck Ford also scored in double figures with 12 points, including two three pointers.

The Saints return to action tomorrow in the Panhandle Shootout when they face NJCAA #19/FCCAA #2 Northwest Florida State College at 7:00pm EDT.

"We will have to play better as a team tomorrow and rebound better if we want to compete with an elite level team like Northwest," said Mowry.
