National Organization Honors Leah Carlson

November 12, 2009

The American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC), a 48,000–member national association for respiratory therapists, will honor Leah M. Carlson, BS, RRT-NPS with the William F. Miller, MD Postgraduate Education Recognition Award at its 55th International Respiratory Congress to be held in San Antonio, Texas, Dec. 5-8.

Carlson teaches respiratory therapy at Sant Fe College. The award is granted by the AARC's American Respiratory Care Foundation and was established in 1988 for a respiratory therapist pursuing postgraduate education which will lead to an advanced degree. Respiratory therapists are specialized health care providers who take care of people with lung conditions ranging from asthma to COPD. They work throughout the acute care hospital on the general wards, in the emergency department, and in the intensive care units, and are also increasingly being found in sleep centers, physician offices, outpatient clinics, pulmonary rehabilitation programs, skilled nursing facilities, and patients' homes. Congratulations!
