SAINTS WIN BIG OVER TAMPA SWISH, 96–76
Gainesville, FL – The #8 Santa Fe Saints (3-1) bounced back in a big way after their defeat to Indian River yesterday, knocking down 18-of-31 three point attempts in a victory over the Tampa Swish on Sunday afternoon.
"This was a nice win for our team against a good veteran team," said Coach Chris Mowry. "It was good to work against a zone defense and hopefully this will help us for the future."
Chad Renfro had a career game, scoring 29 points on 9-of-11 shooting, including 6-of-7 from behind the three point line, to go along with five rebounds, five assists and two steals.
"I'm very proud of Chad," said Mowry. "Chuck [Ford] and Iran [Hollis] also did a great job today knocking down shots and rebounding the ball."
The Swish scored the first two points of the game but a minute later SFC took a 5-4 lead and never looked back, holding the lead the rest of the game. The Saints made eight three's in the first half to build a 43-34 lead at the break.
Branimir Mikulic opened the second half with a three pointer to stretch the lead to 12. Later in the half Santa Fe hit four three's in a three minute span to build an 18 point advantage, 86-68. Renfro capped the game off by scoring eight points in the final three minutes to put an exclamation point on the Saints victory.
"Our guys played very unselfishly today," said Mowry. "Marlon [Rivera] did a good job of distributing the ball with his nine assists and our team was spreading the ball around, helping create a lot of open looks."
SFC had four players in double figures, including Renfro with 29, Chuck Ford 18 (5-of-8 three pointers), Iran Hollis 13 and Altavious Carter had 11.
The next game for the Saints is on Tuesday, November 10 at home against State College of Florida – Manatee at 7:00pm.
