Cuban Artists Panel

A group of Cuban artists will visit SF on Monday, Nov. 2 to to share their many years of experience as artists in the realms of literature, dance, film and visual art. They will meet informally in classrooms with SF students and will present an evening panel discussion that is free and open to the general public.

The Artists
- Ricardo Acosta – Cuban-Canadian award winning filmmaker, who received the Gemini Donald Brittain Award for Best Social/ Political Documentary, is visiting the Graphic Design program from 1 to 3 p.m. to discuss editing techniques and filmmaking.
- Sonia Calero-Alonso – SF faculty member who once was a principal and soloist with the Ballet Nacional de Cuba and featured on CMQ television weekly. Sonia will be visiting the Advanced Dance class at 12:30 p.m. in E-109.
- Nereida Garica-Ferraz – Visual Artists called Nereida one of the most significant Cuban-American artists who has exhibited throughout the United States, including the Whitney Museum, Hirshorn, and the Miami Art Museum. Nereida will be visiting the Humanities Department from 10-11:15 a.m., then the art classes of Valerie Aslakson-Jennings and Matthew Newell, from 1-3 p.m. in Building M.
- Caridad Martinez – Principal and soloist with the Ballet Nacional de Cuba and is now director of the Brooklyn Ballet School. Recipient for two consecutive years of The Association of Writers and Artists from Cuba Award. Caridad will also visit the dance classes from 12:30-3:30 p.m. in E-109.
- Fabiola Santiago – Two-time Pulitzer Prize winning author and author of the current book, "Reclaiming Paris" will be on campus from 1-1:45 p.m. in S-141 to meet with students interested in discussing journalism. She will sign her book in the library from 2-4 p.m.
