SFC FASTPITCH

GATORS SLIDE BY SAINTS, 3-0

Gainesville, FL – Freshman pitcher Colena Lazar was tremendous in the circle for the Santa Fe Saints on Wednesday night, throwing 5.1 hitless innings before the defending SEC champion Florida Gators were able to break through for three runs in the sixth inning to take the tightly contested game at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium at UF.

The Saints outhit the Gators six to three in the contest, but were unable to get on the scoreboard. In the second inning, Lawna Hunter hit a ball up the middle with two outs and runners on second and third, but the run was negated after the Saints were called for interference on the base path.

SFC again threatened in the top of the seventh when Colesa Lazar ripped her second hit of the game into the gap in left field and Mandi Brown was thrown out trying to score from first on a close play at the plate.

Colena Lazar struck out six Gators, including All-SEC performer Aja Paculba.

Right fielder Colesa Lazar and centerfielder Alexis Sowell led Santa Fe on offense, with both of them going 2-for-3. Second baseman Jaimee Vega and designated player Britany Doty each had one hit.

Santa Fe's next Fall Ball game is on Saturday, October 17 at home against the Gainesville Gold. First Pitch of the double header is scheduled for 9:00am.

The Saints and Gators are scheduled to meet again on November 5 at 6:00pm.
