Plus 50 Career Changer Fair Oct. 6 at Santa Fe College

October 5, 2009

In Suzanne Stevens first career, she helped people beautify their homes as an interior designer.

Now, she's entering a new "helping" profession.

At age 62, Stevens is embarking on career No. 2, this time as a registered nurse. Stevens is enrolled in the first semester of the Associate in Science, Nursing (ASN) program at Santa Fe College.

"I love it," said Stevens. "I made a couple of stabs at going to nursing school before, but I was derailed for one reason or another."

Not this time. Not with a "now or never" sense of urgency. Nothing was going to hold her back.

And so far, she's doing great: Stevens has a 4.0 GPA after a year of co- and prerequisites.

Stevens will be sharing her story and offering encouragement to others at the Plus 50 Career Changer Fair, a special college fair for Baby Boomers ages 50 and up who are looking to follow their dreams into a new career. You can learn about Santa Fe's short-term training and degree programs from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6 in Building R, room 01. The fair is free and open to all.

Career counselors and admission advisers will be on hand to chat about career outlooks, training, and requirements, and to admit you to Santa Fe College.
