SAINTS DEFEAT VALDOSTA STATE UNIVERSITY, 4-2
Valdosta, GA – It took an extra inning, but the Santa Fe Saints defeated the Valdosta State Blazers on Thursday 4-2 in ten innings, on a two out, two RBI single by Jeff Moyer.
Gary Merians started on the hill for the Saints and pitched three innings, surrender one run on three hits with one strikeout. Ken Wise followed with three scoreless innings and four strikeouts. Morgan McKinney, Ory Pitts and Corey Turner combined to pitch the next 2 2/3 innings and Daryl Barnes picked up the win with 1 1/3 innings of relief.
Santa Fe didn't get on the board until seventh inning when Jay Taylor scored on a wild pitch after singling to start the inning and moving to third on a steal and a ground out by Nolan Malone.
Mike Miranda tied the game in the eighth with a single that scored TJ Spina.
In the tenth, Jardian Thomas led off with a walk and Bryce Johnston singled to put runners on first and second. Both runners moved up on a ground out, setting up the late game heroics for Moyer, who singled them home.
Jay Taylor led the team offensively, going 3-for-5 with a double and Moyer was 1-for-3 with two walks and two RBI.
The Saints return home on Sunday to take on Marion County at 11:00am.
