SAINTS START FALL BALL WITH FOUR SHUTOUT WINS
Gainesville, FL – The five time defending Mid-Florida Conference Santa Fe College fastpitch softball team opened their Fall season with four wins on Saturday, all of them coming by way of shutouts. The wins came against the Ladyhawks-Mathews, and the Jacksonville Bandits.
The Saints pitching staff gave up only six hits in 21 innings and struck out 20 batters.
Freshman Colena Lazar struck out 10 of the 16 batters she faced on the day and the Saints batters provided more than enough runs, scoring 23 on 30 hits in the four games.
Leading the Saints at the plate were freshman Gia Tomossone, with a .555 average on the day and four RBI, including a booming shot that hit the top of the center field fence and fell back in for a ground rule double. She was followed by Colesa Lazar, who hit .500 on the day and had three RBI.
Also doing good work at the plate were Ashley Peterson, with an .800 average on the day, Kim Squires .600, Venica Brown .500 and an average of .400 each for Alexis Sowell, Lawna Hunter and Jaimee Vega.
The Saints return to action at home next Saturday, with four more games, beginning at 9AM. The first two games will be against the Jacksonville Streamline – Silcox and the 1:30PM double header will be against the Tampa Heatwave – Sonny.
