SANTA FE'S OPENING GAMES CUT SHORT BY RAIN
Gainesville, FL – Gary Merians picked up where he left off last season by throwing 2.1 innings of hitless baseball before the rains made it impossible to continue on the opening day of "Fall Ball" at Santa Fe College against All-American Prospects.
Saints catcher Brett Bozeman opened the scoring in the first with an RBI single to score freshman second baseman Austin Lawrence, giving Santa Fe a 1-0 lead.
In the Saints half of the second, outfielder Zach Rios led off with a walk, DH Ricky Claudio followed with a single and shortstop TJ Spina knocked in the second run of the game with a single to score Rios. After a walk to DH Damon Ming, the All-American Prospects pitcher threw two wild pitches for the Saints third and fourth runs.
Merians recorded one out in the top of the third before the rain became too much for the game to continue.
Santa Fe will take to the field again tomorrow with a home double header against World of Baseball, a travel team from Jacksonville, FL. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
