EGI Offers 5th Annual Summer Camp in East Gainesville
June 9, 2009
The East Gainesville Initiative will sponsor a one-week summer camp for middle schoolers in the east Gainesville community from June 15-20. Camp meets from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, and limited space is still available. The camp is sponsored by 20 faith-based organizations, Santa Fe College and UF College of Engineering.
The morning sessions will provide a Gator Trax experience that highlights the importance of math and science and helps students improve their overall performance in those subjects.
Afternoon sessions feature hands-on interactive opportunities for young people to practice various life skills such as conflict resolution, culinary arts, CPR, financial literacy, and carpentry.
All sessions are taught by qualified teachers, educators and local apprentices. Camp meets at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church at 2505 NE 8th Ave. (32601).
Students should reside in East Gainesville and attend middle school to be considered for camp. Please contact the Office of Community Outreach and the East Gainesville Initiative at 395-5767 or 381-3840, to apply as soon as possible. Space will be filled on a first come, first served basis, so don't delay.
