Saints Fall to State Tournament Host Chipola, 74-53

Marianna, FL – The Mid-Florida Conference Santa Fe Saints women's basketball team's season came to an end Wednesday night at the hands perennial state power house Chipola College. The #3 Saints (22-6) played well against #2 Chipola on their home court in the first half, but struggled in the second half of a 74-53 loss.
SFC trailed by only one at the break, 33-32 but couldn't contend with Panhandle Conference Player of the Year Latoya Williams and the Indians inside game in the second half. Williams finished with a team high 16 after sitting most of the first half due to foul trouble.
The Saints took the early lead, going up 13-8 and held the lead for most of the first half, going up by five three separate times. Chipola hung close and ended the first period on a 5-0 run to take the 33-32 halftime edge.
The Indians opened the second half right where they left off in the first, scoring the first six points to stretch the lead to 39-32. The Saints got back with in six, 43-37, but couldn't close the gap the rest of the way.
Chipola's size advantage took over the rest of the way as the Indians controlled the boards, limiting the Saints to one shot per possession.
Letiecia Davenport led the Saints in scoring with 17 and also pulled down five rebounds. Quanisha Dixon also scored in double figures with 10 and had four steals. Tiffany Jackson played well off the bench, leading SFC in assists with four.
