Santa Fe College Launches New FERPA Training

Santa Fe College is launching a new FERPA training course in Canvas. FERPA stands for the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974. It is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records and regulates what information can and cannot be released to the public. The training will be mandatory for all SF employees by the beginning of the fall 2019 academic term. SF’s Office of the Registrar recommends all college employees take the training at their earliest opportunity to best protect the privacy of SF students.

The FERPA training module is available by logging into Canvas and clicking on the “SF Employee FERPA Training” link. A series of videos covers the types of records protected under FERPA and shows you how to remain compliant with the law. The videos include practice questions. At the end of the training you will be graded on 10 questions. You must get a score of 70 percent in order to pass the FERPA training.

Supervisors are responsible for making sure all of the employees in their areas are aware of the training. If needed, accommodations will be made for employees who do not have regular access to a computer. Because this training is required by the college, it is intended to be completed during the employee’s work hours.

If you have any questions, please contact the Office of the Registrar at 352-395-5450 or contact Mandy Corchado in the registrar’s office at mandy.corchado@sfcollege.edu.

Launch Canvas then click "SF Employee FERPA Training".
