What is Office 365?

  1. Office 365 - A collection of services that allows you to collaborate and share your schoolwork. It's available to staff and teachers who are currently working at Santa Fe College and to students who are currently attending Santa Fe College. The service includes Office Online (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote) and unlimited OneDrive storage.
  2. Skype for Business - communication services include instant messaging, an online presence, video and phone conferencing, and other real-time collaboration features.
  3. OneDrive - which is also a part of Office 365, provides unlimited online storage and allows users to create, edit, and share documents online.

What is the difference between Office 365 and Office 2016?

Microsoft Office 2016 is a suite of software that is installed on a particular computer and can only be accessed from that machine. Office 365 services are cloud-based and can be accessed from anywhere on the Internet. This can be somewhat confusing since Microsoft has also applied the Office 365 label to some of the traditional Office software offerings, like Office 365 Home Premium.

Do I have to use my SF Office 365 account to communicate with SF faculty and staff?

Yes, you are required to use your SF Office 365 account if you wish to contact SF faculty and staff.

How quickly will I have access to my Santa Fe College Office 365 account?

What will my student email address be?

Your student email address will be in the following format:  firstname.lastname@go.sfcollege.edu

Example: A student named John Smith would have the email address  john.smith@go.sfcollege.edu.

How can I access my email and documents when I am away from my computer?

Office 365 primarily lives in the cloud which means that you simply need a web browser and an Internet connection to access you emails and documents from anywhere in the world. Log into your Office 365 account, open OneDrive and you will see a list of files that you can directly work on in your browser.

How can I use Office 365 to collaborate with my peers?

Office 365 gives you the ability to collaborate with students or instructors on Word Documents, PowerPoint Presentations, and Excel Spreadsheets as long as they have access to their own Office 365 account. How can I do work on my laptop when I don't have an Internet connection?

Office 365 allows you to download a local copy of the software so that you can work on papers and projects even when you don't have access to an Internet connection. When you do finally connect to the Internet the work you've done on your computer will automatically sync up with your cloud account.

What is Microsoft OneDrive?

Microsoft OneDrive is a cloud storage solution much like Dropbox. All of the documents and projects you work on in Office 365 can be stored here. Additionally, you can use this space to store other content like photos, video, and audio files. You will have access to nearly one terabyte of storage as a Santa Fe College student. How do I save a copy of a document or file to my desktop or a USB drive?

Although the cloud can be a convenient place to store files, sometimes you may want a local copy to share with someone who does not have access to their own Office 365 account. How long will I have access to Office 365?

You will have access while you are a student at Santa Fe College and for one year from the last date of recorded attendance at SF.

How do I connect my Gmail or G Suite account to Outlook and Office 365?

First, you will need to prepare your Gmail account: Prepare your Gmail or G Suite account for connecting to Outlook and Office 365
