Displaced Homemaker Program
Overview
The Displaced Homemaker program offers educational assistance and additional support to empower people in our community who are transitioning into employment after working primarily in the home. Many participants are women who have lost financial support after a life-changing event.
If you are job hunting or thinking about returning to school, DHP offers free classes and workshops throughout the year. Specialized services include boosting self-esteem, improving communications skills, assertiveness training, resume assistance, job searching techniques, and interview practice. We also provide support for those who are returning to SF or seeking additional training. We also offer basic computer skills classes to the public.
Since 1984, DHP has assisted over 4000 people in our community, resulting in increased wages and buying power, and a reduced need for social services. A clothing closet and food pantry is also available for those in the program.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the program, candidates must:
- Have mostly been homemakers or have other relationships, and
- Be unemployed or not adequately employed, or
- Have been dependent upon a family member for support which is no longer available or have been dependent upon public assistance
