STEM Fest at Perry Center November 14 and 15
November 14, 2018
November 14, 2018 – Santa Fe College's Perry Center for Emerging Technologies is hosting 2018 STEM Fest Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 14 and 15. Seminars begin at 6 p.m. both nights, with light refreshments served in advance of each session. STEM Fest is an opportunity for SF to engage in discussions and learning opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, as well as highlight the work being done by students at the Perry Center in STEM fields.
Wednesday's keynote speaker is Dr. Paul Castillo, who will present: "Training the Immune System to Become Navy SEALs against Cancer". The 2018 Nobel prize of Medicine was awarded to two scientists who discovered a cancer therapy using the body's immune system, and Dr. Castillo will talk about immunotherapy and how it can be used to combat children's cancer.
The speech on Thursday, Nov. 15, will feature four SF students who participated in the first international internship in biotechnology and serology in Brazil. Clay Abraham, Katherine Barnett, Rorie Oglesby and Martha Young participated in the SF Study Abroad program that took them to Brazil earlier this year to work with students there in STEM-related fields. The SF students will share their experiences and advise current students on the benefits of participating in this new international program.
