Santa Fe College Home to Highest Numbers of Bright Futures Scholars
November 9, 2018
November 9, 2018 – According to the Florida Department of Education, Santa Fe College is the top choice of Bright Futures scholarship awardees in the Florida College System. In the 2017-2018 academic year, over $1.6 million was dispersed to 920 Bright Futures scholars attending Santa Fe College. SF topped the lists of both first-time-in-college enrollees as well as returning college students receiving the scholarships.
"This investment in our Bright Futures scholars is a down payment on the future of our state," said Santa Fe College President Jackson N. Sasser. "We are keeping the best and brightest students in our education system and as a result, most remain in Florida once they graduate. Through their work and what they have learned at Santa Fe College, they better every walk of life, enhance the economy, and improve the quality of life for us all."
This announcement comes just three months after Santa Fe College earned "gold" status for the fourth consecutive year, making it the highest performing college in the state college system.
Bright Futures scholarships are earned by high school students who meet a number of academic requirements, including a minimum GPA of 3.0 and at least 75 hours of service to their communities. Bright Futures scholarship recipients often enroll in the Honors Program at SF, which last year had an 88 percent acceptance rate for students transferring into nearby University of Florida.
