Saints of Santa Fe College – Sari Sanborn
November 5, 2018
I don't think people should have to be in the minimum wage market. We have an opportunity for everyone, from the lowest socio-economic bracket. I'll go anywhere and talk about Santa Fe because I want to get the word out. Even just one semester can help get you out of minimum wage. The phlebotomy certificate at the Perry Center, for example, is one semester. Your first half term is your classroom practice; the second half is your clinical rotation. You leave the program and can get paid between $13-15/hour. That's your first step into the world of education. As advisors, it's our job to think outside the box, to talk to our young people, not at them; to ask, 'What do you like? What are your hobbies?' I try to bring that enthusiasm to all age groups.
