Saints storm past FSC-J Blue Wave 3-1

September 26, 2014

The NJCAA #17/FCSAA #4 Santa Fe Saints (13-2, 2-0 MFC) kept the momentum rolling on Thursday night in Gainesville, defeating Florida State College-Jacksonville 3-1 in commanding fashion.

Santa Fe jumped out in the first set and controlled the action, finishing strong for a 25-14 victory.  The second set was a different story as the Blue Wave turned the tide with a strong 25-20 win to knot it up at one set apiece.

From there it was all Santa Fe.  Ruth Harrington and Savannah Young led the attack as the Saints cruised to a 25-13 set four victory, and then took the wind completely out of the FSC-J (9-9, 1-1 MFC) sails with a 25-11 set four win to clinch the match.

Farah Rajaee started the fourth set with 12 straight service points, setting a Santa Fe record.  SF led 16-1 at one point and cruised to the win from there.

Harrington led Santa Fe with 10 kills and four blocks, Amber Hendry had her second straight productive game, finishing with nine kills and three aces, Farah Rajaee had 35 assists, and Ann-Lorrayne Bzoch had 16 digs.

Santa Fe hit .200 for the math and held the Blue Wave to a .073 hitting percentage

The Saints will take to the road on Friday and Saturday for the South Florida State College Tournament, facing off with Broward College at 5:00 PM and South Florida at 7:00 PM on Friday, and Indian River State on Saturday at 9:00 AM and Clearwater Christian at 1:00 PM.
