Fastpitch Drops Game one to SCF 2-1, Rallies for 7-0 Win in Game Two

Gainesville, FL – The State College of Florida Manatees took game one of a two game set in Gainesville on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Saints 2-1. Santa Fe rallied in game two for a 7-0 victory.

SCF scored first in game one, taking a 1-0 lead after two innings.  The Saints (25-18, 12-4 MFC) tied the game in the third on a Manatee error, but from there both teams were scoreless until a State College of Florida run in the top of the seventh broke the tie and won the game for the Manatees.

Beri Scott was 1-for-2 in game one and Megan McDonald was 1-for-3 with a double.  Maddy Peres started the game in the circle and went three innings, allowing one run.  Amber Maxey tossed three innings, and Kalsey Jefferson pitched the seventh inning for SF and took the loss.

Game two was all Santa Fe as the Saints cruised to a 7-0 victory.  SF scored one in the first on a Manatee error, scoring Sid Masso and four more in the second on one hit and two SCF errors.  They capped the scoring with two runs in the third on two hits, including a Torri Bethel RBI single.

Sid Masso led the SF offense, finishing 3-for-4 with a RBI, and Ashley Chapman was 1-for-3 with two runs scored.

Chapman not only produced on offense, but also started in the circle, pitching four innings to earn the win.  Ashley Rey tossed the final three shutout innings.

The Saints get back to Mid-Florida Conference play on Tuesday, April 8 in Ocala at 2:30 PM against the College of Central Florida.
