Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints bounced back from a loss to Daytona State last Saturday with a 3-2 win on Wednesday afternoon, paced by a strong effort on the mound.
Brady Price started on the hill and tossed five innings, surrendering two runs on four hits. Connor Rooney picked up the win in relief, pitching 1.2 shutout innings and Derek Vail earned the save with 2.1 innings of shutout work.
The Saints (15-10, 5-3 MFC) got on the board first, plating two in the bottom of the third on a RBI double by Brady Roberson and a RBI single by George Ragsdale.
Daytona State (10-8, 3-2 MFC) tied things up in the fifth on a two run homer by Austin Marrs.
In the sixth inning Jonathan Camp singled with one out and took second with some heads up base running on a pitch in the dirt, putting the leading run in scoring position. Payson Smith did his part and singled up the middle to score Camp for a 3-2 SF lead, one they would not relinquish.
Rooney and Vail took it from there, shutting down the Daytona offense the rest of the way.
Roberson, Ragsdale, Camp, and Smith had two hits apiece for Santa Fe.
The Saints will face non-conference foe Lafleche College (Canada) on Friday at 3:00 PM. Fans can follow along on Dakstats Game Tracker.
