Daytona Pulls Away for 77-65 Victory Over SF

Gainesville, FL – The game was closer than the final score indicated as the Daytona State Falcons used a late run to pull away for a 77-65 victory over Santa Fe (19-8, 3-4 MFC) in an important late season Mid-Florida Conference game. The win pulls Daytona (23-4, 7-1 MFC) one victory away from clinching the MFC title.
Daytona slowly built up a double digit lead in the first half, leading by as many as 10 with 2:55 left. The Saints chipped away at the deficit and cut it to 37-31 at the half time break.
The Falcons started the second half on a run, retaking an 11 point lead just two minutes in. The Saints answered again and went on an 11-0 run, sparked by four points from Takija Knight and five from Jon Hood.
SF continued their hot streak, going on another 9-5 run to take a 55-51 lead with 8:59.
Daytona turned on the jets over the final nine minutes and outscored the Saints 26-10 the rest of the way for the 12 point win.
Jon Hood led Santa Fe with 21 points, Reggie Hart had 11, and Takija Knight 10. Daytona's Ayinde Spreewell led all scorers with 26 points.
The two teams will meet for the third and final time on Wednesday, February 19 in Daytona at 8:00 PM.
