Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (2-4) fell behind early in their Friday afternoon game against St. Petersburg College (7-2) but fought valiantly down to the last out before succumbing 7-5.

Santa Fe trailed 5-0 heading into the bottom of the eighth where they mounted a rally to pull the game within a run at 5-4.  Brady Roberson provided the big hit of the inning, knocking in two with a bases loaded double off the top of the fence.  Jonathan Camp and Colby Lusignan also knocked in runs for the Saints in the eighth.

St. Pete regained a three point run with two in the ninth and the Saints entered the last half inning of the game down 7-4.  Andrew Fears plated a run with a sacrifice fly and the Saints loaded the bases, but couldn't produce the game tying hit.

Walker Burgess made his first career start for SF, tossing three innings, allowing three earned runs.  Chase Julius pitched five innings in relief and Clemson University signee Derek Vail pitched the ninth, surrendering two runs.

Roberson led the offense, finishing 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI, Payson Smith was 2-for-5 and Colby Lusignan was 2-for-4 with a RBI.

The Saints head out on the road on Saturday, February 15 for a double head at South Florida State College at 12 noon.  They return home for a game against Polk State on Monday, February 17 at 3:00 PM
