SF's Construction and Technical Program Holds Event for Older Career Changers, Oct. 19
October 14, 2010
People ages 50 and up looking to build a career in the construction and technical fields should head to the Charles R. Perry Construction Institute at Santa Fe College's Northwest campus on Tuesday, Oct. 19, from 5 to 7 p.m., for an informational event about Santa Fe's educational tracks.
Sponsored by the Plus 50 Initiative and the Community Education program, this event displays educational opportunities in areas such as construction management, green building technology, solar panel installation, and the craft-trades. Tables will be set up to distribute literature about these exciting programs.
The event will be staffed by advisors from the construction and technical programs, representatives from the Banner Center for Construction, and representatives from the Continuing Education programs. Event sponsors also will lead a tour of the Perry Construction Institute, a new facility opened in 2009 and Santa Fe's first LEED-certified “green” building. Tour highlights include Santa Fe's brand-new, fully-functioning solar trainer and the makings of an entire single-family home, housed in the Perry Institute as students work on its construction.
Event sponsors emphasize that this event will be strictly informational. Educational tracks in the construction and technical fields cannot assure graduates of job placement, nor will the cost of tuition be waived for plus 50 students.
