Saints Sweep CFCC, Clinch Sixth Straight MFC Title

SAINTS SWEEP CFCC, CLINCH SIXTH STRAIGHT MFC TITLE

Ocala, FL – It took extra innings in game one of a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon against Central Florida CC, but the Santa Fe Saints (43-7, 21-3 MFC) pulled out a  7-1 victory and in the process clinched their sixth straight Mid-Florida Conference title.  The Saints also won game two, 9-2.

Colena Lazar (25-2) pitched all nine innings of game number one, surrendering only one third inning run.

Trailing 1-0 going into the fifth inning, Jaimee Vega tied things up with a solo homerun, eventually sending the game to extra innings.

With the score still knotted up at 1-1 in the ninth, the Saints unleashed, scoring six runs, led by a bases loaded Lawna Hunter double to seal up the game and the MFC title.

Hunter finished game one with two doubles, three walks and three RBI, reaching base safely all five at bats and Britany Doty was 2-for-5.

Jasmine Warren (18-4) dominated game two in the circle, striking out seven in seven innings.  The offense backed her up with nine runs on 13 hits.

Gia Tomossone led the way, going 2-for-4 with a homerun and two RBI.  Britany Doty was 3-for-4 with two RBI, Jasmine Warren 2-for-4 with one RBI and Brittany Davis was 1-for-1.

The 2010 Mid-Florida Conference Champion Saints will play doubleheaders at home against Hillsborough CC on April 24 at 12:00pm and Tallahassee CC on April 25 at 1:00pm before heading to the State Tournament in Auburndale on April 30-May 2.
