SAINTS SPLIT WITH SEMINOLE STATE
Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (29-5, 7-1 MFC) suffered their first Mid-Florida Conference loss of the season, 1-0 on Thursday in the first half of the double header against Seminole State College, but bounced back in game two to win 7-6 in ten innings on an RBI single by Colesa Lazar (pictured).
Colena Lazar (18-1) took the loss in game one, the first of her collegiate career. SSC scored the game winner in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice fly with one out and a runner on third.
Game two saw the Saints lose a 6-1 lead, but a run in the top of the tenth salvaged a split in the series.
Jasmine Warren started on the mound and pitch five solid innings, surrendering only one run. She left the game in sixth inning with the Saints leading 6-1. Seminole scored five unearned runs off of Colena Lazar to tie the game, taking the decision from Warren.
In the tenth inning the international tie breaker went into effect and each team started the inning with a runner on second. The Saints were able to manufacture a run when Britany Doty sacrificed Gia Tomossone to third and Colesa Lazar knocked her in with an RBI single. Colena Lazar pitched a scoreless tenth inning for her eighteenth win of the year.
Jaimee Vega, Lawna Hunter, Taylor Pangilinan and Britany Doty each had two hits in game two. Colesa Lazar, Gia Tomossone and Ashley Curry had one hit apiece.
The Saints play a home double header against Central Florida CC on Saturday at 1:00 and 3:00pm.
