Mission
The Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee helps to create and sustain a campus and community-wide culture that ensures diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Values
- Our definition of diversity affirms the variety of experiences and identities that make individuals and communities different from one another. All students, faculty, and staff will be treated with courtesy, dignity, and respect regardless of these differences.
- The Santa Fe College community has a shared responsibility to address unconscious bias, break down prejudicial hierarchies, and demand equity for groups that have been marginalized and excluded from equal access to opportunity.
Goals
Access
Identify, reduce or eliminate barriers to participation and achievement in all college educational programs.
Inclusion (Diversity, Respect and Culture)
Sustain a campus culture where diversity of individual experience is desired and valued and students, faculty and staff develop a strong sense of belonging.
Equity
Identify and close performance gaps so that all marginalized populations are participating and achieving at rates consistent with the overall college population.
Accountability
Create measurable systems by which to evaluate our initiatives including disaggregated data reporting for all areas of college including the ability to filter by program, course, and instructor.
Strategies
Access
- Identify policies, procedures and practices that create barriers or inequitably disadvantage certain populations and work with appropriate college staff to eliminate these barriers.
Inclusion (Diversity, Respect and Culture)
- Ensure the college mission, vision, goals and strategic plan reflect the diversity, equity, and inclusion values of our campus community.
- Ensure the college’s physical environments, classrooms, websites, and printed materials represent our diverse population.
- Provide professional development for faculty and staff on issues of equity and evidence-based practices for creating institutional and systemic change.
- Provide resources for staff and faculty to use in educating students on equity and diversity.
- Provide resources for hiring authorities to be more effective in recruiting and hiring diverse faculty and staff.
Equity
- Produce an annual equity report that can be shared with the college administration, Board of Trustees, and the community with current, historical and trend data as well as goals for improvement.
Accountability
- Establish a process to provide on-going evaluation of the campus climate including views of students, faculty and staff.
- Develop an equity dashboard that can be used by programs, departments, and faculty to identify and close gaps in participation and achievement rates.
- Collaborate with college leadership to develop evaluative systems to ensure progress on equity goals.
