Framework
The framework for faculty awards is the mission of the Academic Affairs division at Santa Fe College, which is to provide an academically challenging environment grounded in the principles of a learning college and supportive of the college's overall mission and values. The division has adopted Santa Fe's Learning College Principles and, in delivering educational services, endorses Chickering and Gamson's The Seven Principles for Good Practice in Undergraduate Education.
Nominations for Awards
Chairs and Directors should submit letters nominating faculty for awards electronically in MS Word to Dr. Stefanie Waschull no later than March 26th. Nomination letters should consist of no more than 300 words and include the rationale/documentation for the recommendation.
Awards
Full-time Faculty Awards
- Provost's Teaching and Learning Excellence Award (2)
Description: Recognize and honor full-time faculty who have demonstrated excellence in the use of innovative learner-centered educational strategies to facilitate improvements in access, student learning and success.
The following attributes should be highlighted in the nomination letter:
- Creates a climate conducive to and supportive of student learning and success.
- Uses innovative learner-centered educational strategies consistent with SF Learning College Principles and Practice to facilitate access, student learning and success.
- Integrates the appropriate use of learner-centered technology in instructional delivery strategies to facilitate student learning and success.
- Demonstrates increases in student learning and success.
- Assesses teaching-learning strategies to improve student learning and success.
- Provides leadership in professional development.
- Provost's Distinguished Service/Civic Engagement Award (2)
Description: Recognize and honor full-time faculty that have made exemplary professional contributions during the past three years in different areas. The nomination letter should highlight activities in some of the following areas:
- Service to the department/program in achieving department/program objectives
- Service to the college
- Professional service/civic engagement external to the college without remuneration.
- Implementation of creative learning experiences to facilitate student involvement in service/civic engagement activities.
- Service to the discipline/program based on a commitment to leadership in professional development.
Note: A faculty member may not receive both awards in the same year.
Part-time Faculty Award
- Provost's Teaching and Learning Excellence Award for Part-time Faculty (2)
The role of part-time faculty is important in realizing the teaching-learning priorities of the college that result in facilitating student learning and success. Their responsibilities primarily include designing courses, delivering instruction, and evaluating student learning. And their presence, experience, expertise, and knowledge enrich the quality of the educational environment.
The Provost will recognize two part-time faculty for exemplary contributions to creating a learner-centered environment by establishing an annual award for teaching and learning excellence.
Description: Recognize and honor part-time faculty who have taught the equivalent of at least twenty-five (25) semester hours and whose exemplary performance in facilitating student learning and success epitomize their extraordinary contributions to creating a learner-centered environment.
The following attributes should be highlighted in the chairs/directors nomination letter:
- Creates a climate conducive to and supportive of student learning and success.
- Uses innovative learner-centered educational strategies consistent with Santa Fe's Learning College Principles and Practice to facilitate student learning and success.
- Integrates the appropriate use of learner-centered technology in instructional delivery strategies to facilitate student learning and success.
- Demonstrates increases in student learning and success.
Eligibility and Selection Procedures
Eligibility
Faculty who are eligible for consideration for an award must meet the following conditions:
- Chairs/Directors must submit a letter of nomination that consists of no more than 300 words that include the rationale and documentation for the recommendation.
- Must not have received the same award in the past five years
Review and Selection Process
A sub-committee of the Center for Instructional Design (CID) Steering Committee will review nominations and make recommendations to the Provost/Vice President no later than the first week in April. Criteria used by the CID sub-committee to review nominations will be consistent with the attributes listed under each award.
Description of Awards
Full-time faculty recipients will receive a plaque and financial support to attend a conference/ workshop of choice during the succeeding academic year if they choose.
Part-time faculty recipients will receive a plaque.
Perpetual Plaque
The names of recipients will be inscribed on a perpetual plaque that will hang in a highly visible campus location.
Other Faculty Recognitions
Chairs and Directors should identify full-time and part-time faculty who have received recognition for exemplary contributions from organizations external to the college in professionally related activities, publications, research, etc. Their contributions will be acknowledged during the awards ceremony. Information regarding these faculty members should be submitted to Dr. Stefanie Waschull electronically no later than April 2nd.

- NISOD Recipients
- AFC Professor of the Year (if SF faculty)
- Past academic award recipients
- Chairs/Directors will be requested to identify faculty for recognition in the following areas:
- Awards for Excellence from External Organizations
- Publications
- Student Engagement Initiatives
- Other Prestigious Recognitions
