Cybersecurity Training
Cybersecurity Training Prepares Staff to Secure College Systems
Cybersecurity attacks have increased worldwide in frequency and complexity, making organizations vulnerable to massive data breaches and affecting their level of service. It only takes a single cybersecurity incident to have a long-lasting effect on Santa Fe College’s financial standing and reputation with current and future students, employees and other stakeholders. End-user security awareness training is an important piece to combating this potential.
With social engineering attacks (phishing/vishing/smishing, watering hole attacks, pretexting, baiting, tailgating, etc.) being the single most popular method used by cyber criminals today, it is imperative that all employees are properly trained in spotting, avoiding and reporting security-related threats.
SF needs to develop a cybersecurity training program for anyone who has access to any legally protected information. All organizations rely on their community members as a crucial line of defense in the ongoing struggle to keep their information and systems secure. It is SF’s responsibility to be a good steward and custodian of the information that it has been entrusted. The overall protection of the data assets must begin with the individual end user.
In addition, we need to have security awareness training to comply with Florida Cybersecurity Standards (FCS) Awareness & Training requirements (Rule 74-2), which is modeled after the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Framework for Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity, the Federal Information Security Management Act of 2002, and Florida Statute § 282.318 (4)(i). Increasingly, compliance requires documented proof that information security awareness training has been conducted for certain organizations and types of positions. The proposed training program is being designed to ensure all employees have a fundamental understanding of computer security and their roles in protecting electronic information.
In order to maintain our position as a top college in the country, we need to have policies, procedures, and training programs that help protect our students and employees.

Supervisors are responsible for making sure all of the employees in their areas are aware of the training. If needed, accommodations will be made for employees who do not have regular access to a computer. Because this training is required by the college, it is intended to be completed during the employee’s work hours.
