Community College Administrator Program
Overview
The Community College Administrator Program (CCAP) is a six-week program of study for higher education administrators from post-secondary vocational and technical institutions in foreign countries.
The program is administered by the Learning Systems Institute at Florida State University (FSU) and Santa Fe College (SF) on behalf of the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and the Office of Global Educational Programs.
Each CCAP consists of a one-week executive dialogue in Tallahassee, Florida where participants meet higher education leaders and policy makers, obtain an overview of the Florida College System, and make short visits to colleges in the system. This is followed by a one week academic symposium led by FSU faculty where participants learn about the history, major policies, and theoretical frameworks that have guided the development of U.S. community colleges. Participants then engage in an intensive two-week seminar at SF where they learn more about how one, high-performing college in Florida operates in practice. The last few weeks of the CCAP involve one or two day visits to other colleges in Florida. This highlights how institutions of varying sizes and in different cities meet the local workforce demand of their communities through innovative educational programs.
Since 2014, FSU and SF have implemented ten CCAP programs with ten different countries: Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Peru, and Ukraine. SF has been the principal community college partner on all but the first of these programs and has helped host all of these visiting delegations. SF and FSU anticipate implementing additional CCAPs for higher education officials from the Caribbean in 2020. To learn more about the CCAP, please visit lsi.fsu.edu/ccap. About CCAP
Since 2014, Santa Fe College and Florida State University have hosted cohorts of administrators from Indonesia, India, Ukraine, and South America.
While at Santa Fe College, each visiting delegation participated in presentations, round table discussions, and one-on-one exchanges with their counterparts. Dozens of Santa Fe College administrators have participated in each CCAP program, engaging in a genuine academic and cultural exchange with our foreign guests. CCAP participants also have had the opportunity to visit classrooms, explore the variety of academic programs we offer, learn about our extensive student services, and speak to students in small group settings. Each cohort has left understanding not only how we meet our educational mission, but also appreciating the centrality of community service to the College mission and how such institutions help promote the economic development of their community.
Subsequently, each cohort has adapted elements of our system and strategies to its own institutions in ways that further empower those systems. Each cohort maintains active relationships with SF as part of the ongoing process of exchange envisioned by the U.S. Department of State.
